Statesmen to host South Region, will play Embry-Riddle tonight


CLEVELAND - After capturing their third Gulf South Conference championship in four years, the Statesmen (39-12) of Delta State University are set to host the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament May 16-18 at Tim and Nancy Harvey Stadium-Dave "Boo" Ferriss Field.

Sunday's announcement marks the first time since 2017 and the 12th time overall that DSU has served as a host site for NCAA postseason play.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to serve as one of the South Region hosts," DSU skipper Mike Kinnison said. "We've believed all along that our body of work had put us in position to host and we are ready to get to work."

The opening game features No. 3 seed Eckerd College versus No. 6 seed Valdosta State at 3:30 p.m. followed by No. 2 seed Delta State versus No. 7 seed Embry-Riddle University.

Games continue at 12 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday with Saturday's championship round set for 3:30 p.m.

If necessary, games will follow on Saturday evening.
