Van Cleve named MACJC Player of the Week

After a monster playoff series against Northeast in which the sophomore was a triple shy of the cycle in a series-clinching, 9-1 Game 3 victory, Northwest Mississippi Community College infielder Ben Van Cleve has been selected unanimously as the MACJC Player of the Week.

Van Cleve was 8-for-9 in the series with three doubles, a home run, five RBIs and five runs scored to go along with a 1.556 slugging percentage. He was 3-for-3 on Sunday with a home run and three RBIs.

The Indianola native and Ole Miss signee leads the team in home runs (12), doubles (12), RBIs (42) and total bases (103) and is second with a .367 batting average.

Van Cleve is currently riding an 11-game hit streak and has reached base safely in 40 of 45 games this season.

Northwest (33-12) will make its 27th NJCAA regional appearance May 15-18 in Fulton and will open play on Wednesday at noon against reigning national champions and No. 1 LSU Eunice (48-6).

Perhaps this Friday night will begin to satisfy the hunger of a team of Tigers.
