The 100 Black Men of the Mississippi Delta announces its annual scholarship awards.
For the past 30-plus years, the 100 Black Men of the Delta has awarded scholarships to deserving students of the Mississippi Delta. The 100 Black Men of the Delta, Inc. is a non-profit community-based organization which supports efforts for successful development of youth in the community.
Students who are selected as scholarship recipients have demonstrated leadership in their respective schools through academic achievement, school activities, athletics, and community service. Each applicant is required to have at least a 3.0 grade point average and a minimum score of 18 on the ACT. They must also complete a scholarly essay on a subject chosen by the group’s scholarship committee. Financial need is also a component of consideration.
It is the hope and prayer of the organization that each of these students will be successful in their educational and career pursuits, and that they will be committed to giving back to their communities.
The 100 Black Men of the Delta, Inc. acknowledges that these awards would not be possible without the support of its members and contribution from businesses, churches, civic and altruistic individuals in our community.
Twelve amazing scholars were celebrated and recognized at our annual scholarship reception.
The honorable Congressman Bennie G. Thompson was the keynote speaker for this year’s ceremony.
The 100 Black Men felt that it was necessary to continue the tradition of rewarding and recognizing these future leaders for their high school achievements and try to assist them as they begin the next phase of their lives.
