STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — A 9-year-old child died after he was shot while sitting inside a vehicle in north Mississippi.
Starkville police told news outlets that the shooting happened Wednesday night. Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt said the child, Lasang Kemp Jr., died at OCH Regional Medical Center.
Officers received a call Wednesday about shots being fired at Brookville Garden Apartments. Police said Lasang was in a vehicle with someone associated with that incident.
Investigators did not immediately have suspects, but a news release said Starkville police will increase their presence near the apartment complex.
