Hopefully, last week’s open date was a big help to the North Sunflower Academy Rebels football team.
With extra time to help heal injuries and regroup as a team, the NSA squad will resume their football schedule today at 7 p.m. on their home field.
The return to football play will present a stern challenge as it will be Lee Academy of Marianna, Arkansas, arriving to play this final non-district game of the season.
The Cougars bring a 2-4 record to the game while the Rebels will be attempting to improve on their 1-4 record currently owned.
Tonight’s competition can be expected to be strong as last Friday night the Lee Academy squad dropped a narrow 38-28 decision to the now 5-1 Deer Creek School Warriors of Arcola.
There are two common opponents played by NSA and Lee this season.
Most recently, while the Rebels fell to DeSoto School by a 60-6 margin, Lee Academy suffered a 34-14 loss to the Thunderbirds.
However, both football teams recorded a victory over Hebron Christian School of Pheba.
While the Rebels prevailed by a 74-6 margin, the Cougars earned a 44-0 decision over the Eagles.
Currently, the Cougars from Arkansas are attempting to improve on their 4-4 record earned last season.
Unfortunately, one of those 2024 victories came at the expense of the Rebels, who fell 26-14 to the Cougars in that matchup.
Historically, despite Lee Academy owning a two-game win streak over the Rebels, NSA still owns a 6-5 advantage in this series.
