A major sewer project for the unincorporated community of Rome is one step closer to a start.
On Monday, during Sunflower County’s Board meeting County Engineer Ron Cassada, presented to the board three bids for the sewer project in Rome. The companies that placed bids were Double S Construction, McBride Co. LLC and Anding Construction. The total budget for the project is roughly $159,000.
Double S Construction’s base bid was $155,000; the alternate bid was $110,000, and the total bid was $265,000. McBride Co. LLC’s base bid was $128,000, an alternate bid of $50,000, and a total of $178,000. Anding Construction’s base bid was $109,840; the alternate bid was $57,240, a total of $167,080.
Anding Construction had the lowest amount on the base bid.
The total bid with the alternate put the project overbudget, howevere, Cassada said that it was within range for negotiation.
Cassada recommended awarding Anding Construction LLC.
Cassada said, “I recommend awarding Anding LLC contingent on the math checking out, which it should. These were lump sums. I also need to check their references to make sure they are licensed and bonded. I have never worked with them before.”
Board Attorney Johnny McWilliams asked Cassada, “Are we over money?”
Cassada said, “Yes, not for the base bid.”
McWilliams asked where the extra money might be found for the project.
Cassada said, “Well, the base bid is the main lift station. We can do with the smaller lift station.”
McWilliams said, “That is what I was going to suggest, because we can put more ARPA money into it if we have any left.”
The board took the bids under advisement.
