Local residents are being encouraged to properly dispose of used tires and avoid illegal dumping along Brickyard Road, where approximately 65 discarded car tires were recently documented.
On April 28, The Enterprise-Tocsin visited an area between U.S. Highway 82 and Heathman Road and recorded a significant accumulation of tires along the roadside. An estimated 65 tires had been illegally dumped on Brickyard Road.
Keith Spealman, a concerned local citizen and business owner, spoke about the issue, urging neighbors to utilize the county’s designated tire disposal facility instead of resorting to illegal dumping.
“Dumping tires illegally not only harms the environment but also makes our community look neglected,” Spealman said. “Please take your used tires to the proper disposal site.”
Glenn Donald, District 1 supervisor, emphasized the importance of using the county’s resources for waste management.
“Sunflower County has a designated location for tire disposal at the County Barn,” Donald explained. “Residents can bring their used tires there, and we encourage everyone to do their part in keeping our community clean.”
He added, “Proper disposal helps prevent environmental hazards and maintains the beauty of our area. We all have a responsibility to keep Sunflower County clean and safe for future generations.”
The county’s tire disposal site is located at the Sunflower County Road Department barn on County Barn Road No. 2, Indianola. For more information, residents can call the facility at 662-887-1406.
Citizens are urged to follow local regulations and use designated disposal sites to help preserve the natural beauty of Sunflower County.
