Vescia Smith, Elder & Disabled Waiver Director for South Delta Planning & Development District spoke to the local Caregivers’ Support Group earlier this month. The group meets at the Indianola Wellness Center on the second Monday of each month. The next meeting date is March 10 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Smith talked about the services offered by SDPDD through the waiver program. Those include case management, adult day services, extended home health services, home delivered meals, in-home respite services, institutional respite services, community transition services and personal care services. Smith said that the program is aimed to keep qualified individuals out of nursing homes and in their own homes for as long as possible.
To be eligible, individuals must be 21 years or older, qualify by either Supplemental Security Income or 300% of SSI, must be clinically eligible through the use of comprehensive Long Term Services and Support assessment tool, must require nursing facility level of care if assistance is not provided and nursing level of care must be certified by a physician.
Upcoming programs include Bryant Larry in March to talk about exercise and the safe transport of patients and Al Cutturini of North Mississippi Rural Legal Services in April to talk about elder law. For more info please call 662-884-9698.
