Carolyn Ann Sledge, executive director of Indianola Chamber Main Street, addressed the Indianola Lions Club at its January 21 meeting, providing an update on community development efforts and support for local businesses.
Sledge said Indianola’s greatest strength is its people and emphasized the importance of collaboration as small towns adapt to changing retail trends. She highlighted the community’s nearly 20-year partnership with Mississippi Main Street, noting its role in downtown revitalization, merchant support and access to statewide resources and training.
Sledge shared that recent conversations with local merchants and community partners revealed a strong desire for increased visibility, coordinated promotion and continued cooperation among organizations such as the Chamber, Indianola Tourism Association, Main Street, and civic groups. She commended the Indianola Tourism Association for its ongoing social media efforts to promote shopping local.
Looking ahead, Sledge outlined opportunities for the coming year, emphasizing that “we must tell Indianola’s story consistently and loudly.” She also called for seasonal promotions to support merchants, stronger partnerships and open communication. She expressed optimism about Indianola’s future and encouraged residents to remain engaged and supportive of local businesses.
Sledge concluded by thanking the Lions Club for its service to the community and its continued commitment to Indianola, noting that their dedication and leadership help strengthen the town and its people.
