Young, vibrant, and with immeasurable energy, Indianola native KC Maxey has assumed the Indianola Chamber of Commerce director’s position with a palpable passion. The 24-year-old is currently enrolled at Mississippi Delta Community College, majoring in drafting. Although she is still pursuing her education, this young lady has had a lifetime of training in business and around Chamber functions. “My mom owns 82 Outlet Store,” Maxey explained. “She has owned that business since I was about six or seven years old. And she has been a part of the Chamber for a long time. I grew up around retail, helping plan events, and interacting with other business owners.” The Indianola Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors made Maxey’s hiring official on August 15. In the two weeks, she’s been on the job, she has hit the ground running. “I’ve been introducing myself as the new director to several business owners and talking to many who aren’t members of the Chamber about the benefit of joining,” she said. “The first official project I’m doing is the Merchant Money campaign. This lasts about four weeks in September.” According to Maxey, small businesses that are a part of the Chamber can join the merchant community, which is a separate event and function-planning component. “They all have a set amount that they pay, and that money will rotate back through local businesses,” she explained. “It’s just a way to get people shopping local while also helping the Chamber.”
Maxey’s background in drafting will also be of great benefit to the Chamber. Her visual acuity and eye for detail will be key in developing promotional materials, campaigns and marketing tools to promote local businesses. “I think what someone my age really brings to the table is the ability to promote Indianola through social media,” she said. “I’m making updates to our Facebook page to make it easier for local businesses to share their products and promotions.”
Maxey originally enrolled in East Mississippi Community College but transferred to Moorhead. As she stated, “I love being home and love Indianola. I’m very excited about the job.”
Maxey describes herself as a bit of an old soul. She said her mom kids her for listening and singing along to old-school hits on 99.1. She also enjoys gardening, spending time with her boyfriend, Maury, and playing with her two English spaniels. “I’m hoping that businesses look at being a member of the Chamber is just another way of making Indianola better,” Maxey said. “I’m excited, and everybody is excited for me. I just want to do a good job for Indianola businesses.”
“There are a lot of exciting improvements already going on Indianola,” she added.
