Both IA teams take down visitors Tuesday
With the Christmas break looming, there is now only one night of Indianola Academy basketball remaining to play this calendar year.
That final upcoming contest will occur this Friday when Manchester Academy of Yazoo City visits the IA gym.
The girls’ game is scheduled to tipoff at 6 p.m. with boys action to follow immediately thereafter.
Thus far this week’s play has been successful for the now 4-5, 1-0 Lady Colonels, who claimed two wins this past week to improve their record to its current mark.
In their most recent play Monday night, the IA girls earned a 39-7 home-court victory over Deer Creek School of Arcola.
This win came on the heels of the Lady Colonels exciting 47-44 District 2-3A road decision last Friday over Oak Hill Academy in West Point.
Meanwhile, in boys’ play Monday night the 4-4, 0-1 Colonels claimed a dominating 46-24 win over visiting Deer Creek School.
This victory was preceded by last Friday’s 47-24 road loss to Oak Hill Academy.
In the Lady Colonels’ critical district win over Oak Hill Academy, excellent free throw shooting was crucial in the IA squad bringing home another digit in the win column.
Sending 18 of their 23 free throw shots through the basket, the Lady Colonels also benefited from three players reaching double digit scoring.
Leading this trio of players with her double double performance was Mattie Beth Williamson.
The senior would end her night’s play with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Also hitting double figure scoring status were Leighton Lovelace and Hannah Lloyd. The pair posted 12 and 11 points respectively on the scoreboard.
The Lady Colonels had a much easier time Monday night with their 32 point victory over Deer Creek School.
Lovelace and Williamson paced IA’s scoring with 10 points apiece in this game.
In boy’s’ action Monday night, the game was decided early as the Colonels featured a trio of players hitting double digit scoring.
While Ashton Powell lit up the basket with his 24 point game, C.J. Brown and E.J. Hall added 10 points apiece to IA’s side of the scoreboard.
