After beginning the new calendar year with a pair of basketball victories, the Indianola Academy Colonels will attempt to stretch their winning streak to three games today.
Owning a 3-9, 1-0 record, the Colonels will travel to Marks today to take on the Raiders of Delta Academy.
Meanwhile, the 2-8, 1-0 Lady Colonels will do likewise when they take Delta Academy’s court at 6 p.m.
In their most recent action this past Tuesday, the Lady Colonels earned a 29-11 road victory over North Sunflower Academy in Ruleville.
Moments later, the Colonels also earned a District 1-2A decision over NSA, as they handed the Rebels a 54-40 defeat.
Additional action, which opened the 2026 portion of IA’s schedule, occurred this past Monday night.
It was a good night for the Colonels as they defeated visiting North Delta School by a 48-40 margin.
However, the Lady Colonels were not as fortunate as their competition from Batesville escaped with a 50-14 non-district victory.
Following tonight’s second consecutive District 1-2A matchup against Delta Academy, a busy schedule of games lays ahead for the IA squads.
Yet another district contest will occur next Tuesday in the IA gym when Regents School of Oxford visits.
Next Thursday will then find the IA teams at Winona Christian School for a night of non-district competition.
Both nights of play will begin with the girls’ game tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys’ action following immediately thereafter.
In their recent victory over North Sunflower Academy, the Colonels’ offensive effort was led by Patrick Davis’s strong 23-point performance.
Also reaching double digits in the rebounding category against the Rebels was Tristen Bradshaw, who pulled down 10 errant shots for the Colonels.
As for their win over NSA, the Lady Colonels used good defense and the 14-point night of play by Nyla Thomas to move past the NSA squad.
Meanwhile, in Monday’s eight-point victory over North Delta School, the Colonels received double-figure scoring from a pair of players to help fuel their victory.
Bucketing 22 points and 18 points respectively against the Green Wave were Ty Killebrew and Davis.
In the Lady Colonels’ loss to the Lady Wave, it was Thomas once again leading the scoring for IA with her six-point outing.
