They remain in search of their first victory of the season.
With that goal in hand, the hope is that another trip on Highway 82 today will earn a winning result for the Indianola Academy Colonels football team.
Making their way to West Point, the District 2-2A member Colonels will take their 0-2 record to the field at 7 p.m. against their second consecutive District 3-2A opponent, the 2-0 Oak Hill Academy Raiders.
The Raiders will come into tonight’s non-district contest after recording their second consecutive shutout win of the young season. That most recent victory was earned by way of last Friday’s 22-0 defeat of French Camp Academy.
Oak Hill Academy opened their 2025 season two weeks ago by manhandling Manchester Academy of Yazoo City by a 43-0 score.
Meanwhile, the Colonels will attempt to rebound from last Friday’s trip to Winona Christian School which resulted in a 49-7 loss for the IA squad.
“Winona has a really good team,” said IA Head Coach Tommy Nester. “We played pretty well in the first quarter but not so much after that.”
As for Oak Hill Academy, “With two shutouts, they are apparently good defensively,” noted Coach Nester. “We will come out and play hard and see what happens.”
Tonight’s game against Oak Hill Academy is the first time the two programs have met on a football field since the 2014 season.
Appearing to be making a statement due to their recent successes, Oak Hill Academy entered this season attempting to improve on last year’s 0-9 record.
That winless season was the latest in a seven-year run of losing seasons the program from West Point has experienced.
Historically, IA owns an 8-5 series advantage over the Raiders.
In last Friday’s loss to Winona Christian School, the Colonels found success hard to come by on both sides of the ball against the Stars.
By halftime, the Colonels were down 28-0 but would avoid a shutout early in the fourth quarter.
It would be a 32-yard run to the end zone by junior running back Ty Killebrew which spoiled the Stars’ shutout bid.
Killebrew would lead IA’s rushing attack as his 14 carries accumulated 55 yards of offense.
Under center, sophomore quarterback Patrick Davis completed five of his 13 passes for 50 yards.
On the other end of those pass completions, Graham Howard’s three catches led all receivers and picked up 42 yards in the process.
Defensively, Howard’s seven solo, three assist night of play paced the Colonels while Ethan Hayes recorded a fumble recovery during his time on the field.
