Going to the mountains in north Georgia for vacation is a great, refreshing, and relaxing time of life. For three years in a row now my wife and I have met our children and grandchildren for family fun and a time of reunion.
My wife and I arrived at the cottage first. It was a very pleasant and beautiful day. After we unloaded the car and were preparing to look around an unannounced rain storm came through. As we sat and waited for it to pass, the storm became increasingly worse and turned into straight line winds with very hard rain and extremely loud thunder. In a matter of a few minutes several trees were down in the park, power lines were down, and all of a sudden we were in the dark which lasted for several hours.
The park rangers, within a few minutes, were out in the park assessing the damages and checking on the people in the park. The Georgia Power Company came very soon and began clearing the roads and working on the lines. No one could leave the park and no one could enter until several big trees that had fallen across the road could be cut and removed and all power lines had safely been cared for.
Most of us face critical and dangerous situations in our lifetime. For those of us that know the Lord personally we understand that He is in control and the outcome is up to Him. We go to Him in prayer and ask that He guide us and take care of us. Those that do not know the Lord personally remain in the dark and face the uncertainty of the day.
Most of us become impatient when there is no light around us and we have trouble seeing where we are going. Even though this storm happened in the middle of the afternoon the cottage had very little lighting through the windows because of the dark skies. My wife and I understood that repairmen would be on the scene and in a matter of time would have us up and going again. Many times when people become impatient their thinking is not of sound mind and some of them will get hurt trying to do something they need to stay out of the way of.
This is not just weather related problems because many people suffer storms of some kind every day. Whether it is financial, marital, health related, or work related, there is going to be some kind of uncertainty we face our entire life. Knowing Jesus personally can give us a peace and assurance that whatever the outcome, He will take care of us. We need to remember this saying: Know Jesus, Know Peace. No Jesus, No Peace.
Our trip to the mountains has always been a very pleasant one and this one was also. The park rangers and Georgia Power people did an exceptional job of getting the power restored in the park. Their quick response made a tremendous difference on how our vacation was going to be and our outlook on life was not dampened by the storm that passed through that day. What about your life? Do you have the peace that passes all understanding which is Jesus Christ?
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for the protection you gave us that day of the unexpected rain and wind storm. Thank you for each day that you allow me to have on earth and I pray that you will always guide me and direct me in the way you want me to go. Amen
