Some people have contended that Christians have a conscience against voting for Donald J. Trump for President. I wonder why?
As an Evangelical Christian, I am glad the Donald Trump won re-election for another term against Vice President Kamala Harris. I had a conscience against voting for Harris. Trump was the opposite of the stated positions of the VP on her campaign I take to be overwhelmingly moral issues:
Abortion, at almost any time up to and maybe even after the birth of the child! The child has one beating heart, two arms, two legs, two lungs, one head, etc. and the mother does too, so it’s not a part of the mother, and normally it will exit the womb in time. On exit, all it needs is food and time and then it takes on personality that we’ll come to know. Medicine treats them regularly as separate. The Psalm writer believed the Lord knew him in the womb and blessed and ordered his steps across a happy life. (Psalm 139:13). Think I don’t know what a “crisis pregnancy” is? Thankfully, I’ve got a beautiful 26-year-old granddaughter born out of wedlock who was a cum laude graduate of Ole Miss and works in a tech job in Austin. We text every weekend. I love her.
Sex “change” (a misnomer, which is not actually effective)—operations even for troubled adolescents and others. So many, we are now hearing, regret the trauma, especially when serious surgical and biological adjustments were made. God made them male and female. That difference may be the only thing permanent in this world. And Harris also favors government funding for their surgeries! That means addition taxation and the implication of us all in this mutilation and unnatural perversion.
Same sex “marriage.” That is not really what happens in the traditional and Biblical sense. It may be a recognized legal union with a certificate from a civil authority with appropriate tax benefits but that’s about as far as it goes. American civil institutions must recognize it. But in the end, it has a deleterious effect, long term, for the social order, like the previous two practices.
Open borders—do refugees no long term good, for the American social order nor the refugees. Open borders also mean the lack of vetting of those who have illegal actions and malicious mischief as their leading motive for coming. For one thing, it begins with breaking the law. They should learn our language and seek assimilation. Yes, Christian believers and charities should care for the stranger and the refugee, as Christ would and directed his followers to. I’m all for immigration but only when it means assimilation, cordial citizenship, and gainful employment.
There’s a good, orderly way, as so many of our long-term naturalized citizens and descendants prove to enrich American life. Their descendants often take noble part in our society. I enjoy the PBS program “Finding Your Roots” to see how immigrants and ancestors of the celebrity guests came to America. They had very little when they came and wanted to find a better life. They experience the “American Dream” and become successful, some very successful. It’s inspiring, to say the least!
Defunding police—which in some cases, causes a serious breakdown in law and order. Witness Minneapolis, Seattle, and Portland in the summer of 2020 and the destruction that was done in those once great cities. One of the basic purposes of government is the protection of the weak and security of the social order and the national defense. God has so ordained government for that key purpose and we pay taxes to secure it.
So much for five moral reasons NOT TO HAVE VOTED FOR VP KAMALA HARRIS. There are others.
A discerning observer pointed out: “There is no logical way that a knowledgeable Christian can support Harris. It would be like Elijah supporting Baal. If it were simply a disagreement over tax rates or Social Security, that would be one thing, but this is about abortion, homosexuality, transgenderism, open borders, free speech, etc. Let's not forget that we are closer to a nuclear war than we have ever been.”
The writer seems to be right on point! This use the word “evangelical,” meaning adherence at least to fundamentals of the Christian faith. Usually these are: inspiration of the Scriptures, salvation in Christ by faith alone, the deity of Jesus Christ, the divine uniqueness of the Church, and the second coming of Christ. That’s why Mississippi has been called the buckle on the Bible Belt.
On X, I saw some accusations of moral failure against our current VP Kamala Harris as a young woman, as well as former President Donald Trump. Neither candidate likely has any personal moral high ground on which to stand. Thus, the two candidates for President are accused of moral failure, so there was much more to consider in this race. Trump is probably the most investigated man in human history! His enemies have left no stone unturned for eight years and have woven some pretty arcane accusations that led to several indictments. Several have since evaporated. Likely the rest will as well in time.
Both candidates had performance records. So, think of the record of the last four years. Painful for many. I preferred to have Trump’s record of the prior four years. Here’s what Biden inherited in January 2020: Peace almost everywhere. 6.5% growth rate; 1.4 % inflation; $2.39 gas price; 2.65 % mortgage rate (Department of Labor, BLS, AAA, Fannie Mae; Fox News). No comparison. As for Harris, she would never own up to her clearly stated positions and told a jillion lies about it.
I understood that we were not aiming to elect a deacon, elder, vestryman, pastor or Sunday School teacher or the equivalent. But we were electing the CEO for the biggest corporation in the world. It’s daunting. I’m thankful we had an experienced man at the ready. Unlike many Democrats, I believe to my core that this is not our last election for President. Now if the law-fare of eight years will cease and desist we can make progress undistracted to making America great, free, and prosperous. That’s my prayer.
