Our paper was presented a large white fleecy boll of cotton this week by Mrs. Shaw who lives just North of town. She is generally known as “Aunt Patty” and is a progressive farmer. She manages her farm in its entirety and when Aunt Patty cracks the whip, everything in the place must move
T. F. Fletcher of Fletcher Bros. left Wednesday for Rome, Georgia to be gone a few weeks.
On July 2, the Distinguished Cross was awarded to Lt. Daniel Dwiggins, an old Drew boy, for gallantry in action.
FROM DEVERE GILMER, MANAGER OF MERCHANTS AND PLANTERS GIN: For the past few years, we have ginned the first cotton to come to Indianola and have always named the opening price on cotton seed. This year we are going to open with a record price. We are going to pay $100 per ton for the first bale we gin.

INVERNESS NEWS BY MRS. ROBERT WARREN: Jack Catlette and Nicky Jones have been visiting Yellow Stone Park and other points of interest of the West. Ben Catlette is working at the park this summer.

FEATURE ON DR. RAY MATTHEWS BY THIS WRITER: Dr. Leslie Ray Matthews grew up in Indianola. He graduated from Gentry High School, the University of Mississippi and the University Medical School. He has received many accolades in medicine, the latest being a surgical care fellow at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
DR. MATTHEWS CONTINUES TO MAKE HISTORY IN THE FIELD OF MEDICINE
Dr. Ray Matthews is a prime example of a small-town boy making good. He is known worldwide for his research on Vitamin D. He has been presented with the distinguished Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. He has been elected Fellow of American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Royal Society of Medicine, among other national and international awards.
Despite his fame as a physician, he remains the same congenial young man that he was growing up in Indianola. He says when he gets an opportunity to relax, he enjoys Jazz and R&B music, watching old movies and playing tennis.
Despite all of his accolades, he will proudly tell you he is from Indianola and the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Maatthews.
