Indianola’s local motorcycle clubs and bike enthusiasts will have an opportunity to show their support for peace and non-violence this weekend.
The I-Town M.C., Motormouse M.C. and other M.C.s statewide will present a biker rally, cookout and fun for kids in support of the 100 Days of Non-Violence initiative that is designed to bring community awareness to gun violence on our streets.
The M.C.’s plan to have “kick stands up” at approximately 1 p.m., according to a release.
They will muster together and depart from the Love’s Truck Stop on Hwy 49. Their route will take them briefly along Hwy 82, then through downtown, continuing through various neighborhoods and ending at the parking lot on Church Street.
While on Church Street, there will be music, grilled lunch/beverages and inflatables for all kids to enjoy. The fun will continue until 5 p.m.
Mayor Ken Featherstone initiated the 100 Days of Non-Violence project during his first month in office.
“We are asking all citizens of Indianola to join us and show your support for a worthy cause. We have to change the culture of gun violence and apathy,” Featherstone said in a release this week. “Although the City COVID restrictions have been relaxed, we strong encourage citizens to continue wearing their masks and hand sanitizer will be provided.”
100 Days of Non-Violence calls for a stop to not only individuals shooting each other but also to random gunfire for a period of 100 days and beyond.
“We are proud to partner with our local motorcycle clubs to get the message out,” Featherstone said. “Hundreds of bikers will converge on Indianola from across the State to partner with us.”
