SUNFLOWER COUNTY EMERGENCY SERVICES UPDATE

EMERGENCY RESPONSES:
• On Monday, October 17 at 1:22pm, the Drew and Ruleville volunteer fire departments responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Drew-Merigold Road. One person was transported by MedStat EMS for evaluation of injuries.
• On Wednesday, October 19 at 10:29am, the Ruleville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 900 block of Byron Street.
• On Wednesday, October 19 at 3:07pm, the Ruleville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a carbon monoxide alarm in the 200 block of West Sunflower.
• On Wednesday, October 19 at 3:43pm, the Drew Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire on US Highway 49 near Parchman
• On Thursday, October 20 at 3:57pm, the Ruleville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a car fire at North Ruby and Martin Luther King in Ruleville. On arrival, firefighters found a two-vehicle crash. MedStat EMS transported two patients for evaluation of injuries.
• On Thursday, October 20 at 5:25pm, Sunflower County Emergency Management was notified by Indianola Police of a blue 45-gallon drum that had fallen from a trailer in the 600 block of US Hwy. 82 West. No readily useful label information was found as the label had been severely damaged when it fell and slid across the roadway. A Hazardous Materials Technician along with a Hazardous Materials Operations member responded and determined the drum contained no hazardous substances. Indianola Public Works was called in to remove the drum. Emergency management volunteers cleared the scene at 5:52pm.
• On Thursday, October 20 at 5:29pm, the Drew Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the 600 block of Shelby Drive.
• On Friday, October 21 at 1:21pm, the Inverness Volunteer Fire Department responded to a brush fire on Four Mile Road
• On Friday, October 21 at 2:14pm the Ruleville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a brush fire in the 2900 range of US Hwy. 49.
• On Friday, October 21 at 2:43pm, the Moorhead Volunteer Fire Department responded to a combine fire on Kroeker Road.
• On Friday, October 21, Sunflower County Emergency Medical Response provided event medical support to the Indianola Police Department for events surrounding the Gentry High School homecoming. Emergency medical response volunteers contributed approximately 32.5 man-hours to the game and post-game block party events.
• On Saturday, October 22 at 1:05am, Rescue 9 responded to a single-vehicle rollover on MS Hwy. 442 approximately five miles east of Shaw. On arrival, emergency medical response volunteers found the patient had self-extricated and was taken by private vehicle to a local hospital.
• On Saturday, October 22 at 8:51am, Rescue 1 and the Indianola Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle, multi-casualty crash at the intersection of US Highway 49 and Broadmoor Drive in Indianola. A total of five people were involved. One required transportation by MedStat EMS. All others either did not require medical attention, or were carried by private vehicle. (Sunflower County Emergency Medical Response defines a multi-casualty incident as one involving three or more patients. Thus far for 2022, Rescue 1 has responded to 15 multi-casualty incidents with a combined total of 79 patients.)
• On Saturday, October 22 at 1:29pm, the Ruleville and Drew volunteer fire departments and one Sunflower County Deputy Fire Coordinator were dispatched to a possible apartment fire in the 400 block of West Sunflower Street in Ruleville. First-arriving Ruleville firefighters discovered an overheated exhaust fan in one apartment unit. All other incoming personnel were canceled enroute and the faulty exhaust fan was removed from the apartment.
• On Saturday, October 22 at 11:31pm, the Indianola Fire Department responded to a car fire on Chapman Street.
• On Sunday, October 23 at 10:58pm, Rescue 3 and the Moorhead Volunteer Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 2000 range of US Highway 82 East. Two patients were transported by MedStat EMS.
