Delta Health Center Sadly Announces the Death of Dr. Ronsheka Palmer,
Chief Operating Officer
Mound Bayou – On the evening of Monday, August 1, 2022, Dr. Ronsheka Palmer was involved in
a tragic car accident that claimed her life. Dr. Palmer served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) at
Delta Health Center and was a critical member of the executive team. In 2014 she joined the
organization as a family nurse practitioner, quickly rising to clinical quality officer and ultimately
COO. Dr. Palmer’s work was critical to DHC’s successful expansion efforts, including those at
Hollandale, Mayersville, Rolling Fork, Leland, seven school-based clinics in the Sunflower County
Consolidated School District, and most recently, Mississippi Valley State University. Under her
leadership DHC completed the Health and Human Services Administration (HRSA) required
Operational Site Visits with perfect scores since 2015 and was looking forward to the 2022 site visit
with excited anticipation.
Dr. Palmer’s influence and impact in rural community health care was immeasurable, and her
commitment and dedication unmatched. She leaves an exemplary legacy of servant leadership
and passion in community health care. Mr. John A. Fairman, Chief Executive Officer notes, “Dr.
Palmer was the hardest working, most committed and loyal person and professional one could ever
wish for.” Delta Health Center extends its deepest condolences to her family. She will be sorely
missed.
Details of the accident are still under investigation. Final arrangements are pending and will be
announced by the family.
Delta Health Center, the first rural community health center in the nation, currently serves six
counties in the Mississippi Delta with 18 community and school-based health clinic
locations. As a Federally Qualified Health Center funded under Section 330 of the Public
Health Service Act, Delta Health Center provides primary care services to patients
regardless of their ability to pay.
