Golden Heritage Celebrates Older Americans Month
Golden Heritage Adult Daycare Personal & Respite Care Services is gearing up to celebrate older Americans by acknowledging the contributions and achievements of older Americans, highlighting important trends, and strengthening their commitment to honor our older citizens. The 2025 theme, "Flip the Script on Aging," focuses on transforming how we perceive, talk about, and approach aging while encouraging us to challenge stereotypes and dispel misconceptions. Join them in honoring older adults' contributions and in exploring opportunities for remaining active and engaged as we age and in highlighting ways to live with purpose, exploration and connection during this season of life. They have designed MAY 12-16 to showcase and pay homage to the pioneers of Sunflower and Bolivar counties. The final celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. FRIDAY, MAY 16, at the Ruleville Community House, located at 114 Church Street in Ruleville. S.O.S. for Healing Conversations
The local monthly “Safe Online Space (S.O.S.) for Healing Conversations,” an anonymous, judgement-free and secure online chatroom session for sexual assault victims/survivors, will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. MONDAY, MAY 19. Anyone affected by sexual violence, whether it happened to you or someone you care about, can find support. Memorial Day Tribute
“They Rest in Glory,” a Memorial Day Tribute along the Hwy. 442 sharecropper corridor, will take place at 10 a.m. MONDAY, MAY 26, at Gilfield M.B. Church, Doddsville. Bring you folding chairs as the lives and legacies of African American veterans laid to rest in the sacred grounds of I John, Gilfield, Hearts Chapel, Green Grove and other historic cemeteries along Hwy. 442 are honored.
BeSMART: Control Your Diabetes for Youth
The BeSMART: Control Your Juvenile Diabetes program is continuing at the B.B. King Museum from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the FOURTH TUESDAY of each month (next date – MAY 27). Youth Golf Camp
A Golf Camp for ages 8-14 will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily during the weeks of JUNE 2-6 and JUNE 9-13 at Merritt Middle School. Canvas & Conversations
The B.B. King Museum and the City of Indianola present Canvas & Conversations, a paint day for senior citizens, every FIRST TUESDAY (next date: JUNE 3) from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the museum. Light refreshments will be served.
