The Retired Education Personnel of Sunflower County will meet at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Henry Seymour Library.
Learn Local History
Headstone Stories is an academic program that introduces students to archives, primary sources, and historical research, while educating the community about local history. Indianola Academy 6th grade students researched the interred and from 10:00 a.m. to noon Saturday they will present their findings to community members at the Indianola City Cemetery. Come on out, support our local youth and meet Indianola’s history! The program is free and open to the public. Carnival at the Library
“Libraries Lead to Fun” is the theme for National Library Week. Friends of the Henry M. Seymour Library will be hosting a carnival of fun to celebrate beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Henry M. Seymour Library. Mayor Steve Rosenthal will be our Master of Ceremonies. There will be lots of food, fun and games for all ages. This is a free event to the public.
Local Choirs Sing
Mississippi Valley State University Alumni Association will present MVSU Concert Choir, the Coahoma Community College Choir, and the Gentry High School Choir to sing at 3 p.m Sunday at First United Baptist Church, 720 Coolidge Street.
Class of ‘68
The Gentry High School Class of 1968 will meet at 5 p.m. Sunday at Karen’s Kitchen, Sunflower Ave. All class members are encouraged to attend. Final plans are being made for the 50th Year Celebration.
Class of ‘74
The Gentry High School Class of 1974 will have a meeting at 5 p.m. Sunday at Pizza Hut.
Alumni Meeting
The Sunflower County Chapter of Alcorn State University National Alumni Association, Inc. will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 at Bell Grove Missionary Baptist Church, located on B.B. King Road. All members are encouraged to attend.
College Job Fair Fun Day
The Fresh Start Community Program will have a College Job Fair Fun Day at 1 p.m. April 21 at the Bethune Center in Southgate. The event will include a cash give-a-way, bouncers for kids, food, kickball game, several college recuriters, and different businesses that will be offering job opprtunities to the community.
Moorhead Ad Booklet
The Moorhead Chamber of Commerce is in the process of putting together our Annual Ad Booklet. We are asking each resident or friend to take out an ad for our 2018 memory book. The proceeds will go towards our scholarship fund. There will be a Chair Yoga Thursday Brown Bag Lunch n’ Learn, April 19 from 12:00-12:45 p.m. @ the Extension office. Please call to sign up! Need a mid-day energy boost? Chair yoga could be the answer! Come learn about how chair yoga can invigorate your body and mind from the comfort of your chair at your office or at home.
nDiabetic Support Group meets during the noon hour at the B.B. King Museum every 4th Thursday of each month (April 26). A lunch is served along with an educational component to help you better understand diabetes.
nSewing Classes will begin on April 9 from 2 – 4 p.m. then continue on April 10, 11, & 12 from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. at the Extension office. There is a $10 registration fee and most supplies are furnished. Please call the office to sign up – space is limited!
nThe next ServSafe Class offered in Indianola will be on Tuesday, April 24th. The cost of the class is $140 (a retake is $105 – MUST have the 7th edition book).
Library Events
nChildren are invited to read several different genres and check out the books they like the most during the “Book Buffet” from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Inverness Public Library on April 17.
nCome play I Spy at the Ruleville Library from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 10 & 12 and from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Drew Library April 13.
nLearn what soil is made of while celebrating Earth Day from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Inverness Public Library today.
nChildren will learn about plants and how they grow during the “April Showers Bring May Flowers” literacy program from 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. today at the Henry Seymour Library in Indianola. They will get to plant their own sunflower and watch it grow over the next month while they visit the library.
nCreate healthy habits at the Henry M. Seymour Library at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays by stretching it out with yoga.
