Praxis Training
Mississippi Valley State University’s Teacher Education Department will host a Praxis training in the O.P. Lowe Education Building. Praxis Core trainings offered will include: Reading (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and Math (1-5 p.m.) Saturday. Registration must be completed by Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018. MVSU Alumni Meeting
The Sunflower County Mississippi Valley State University Alumni Association will have its regular monthly meeting at 4 p.m. Sunday in the First United Baptist Church fellowship hall.. All alumni and friends of the Valley are invited to attend this meeting.
Food Box Pickup
The Sunflower County Bill Richardson Civic Alliance Group will issue food boxes Monday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. to those certified to receive food boxes. Boxes not picked up by 12:15 Tuesday will be issued from 12:15 to 1 to persons on the waiting list. The group does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability (not all prohibited bases apply to all programs).
Annual Queen Dance
Lonely Riders M/C Club will host their Annual Queen Dance from 8 p.m. until January 13 at St. Benedict the Moor Center, 403 Church Street. Trophies will be awarded for all events. MSU Extension Service
nThere will be a Tri-State Soybean Forum with registration starting at 8 a.m. tomorrow at the Thomas Jason Lingo Community Center in Oak Grove, LA. The forum is a collaborative effort between land-grant institutions, Mississippi State University, the University of Arkansas, and Louisiana State University. The Forum works to engage and educate local farmers in the tri-state area and provide networking opportunities with industry leaders. For more information contact R.L. nThere will be a Farm Management Economics Decision Support Aids Workshop at 1 p.m. Wednesday January 10 at the Sunflower County Extension Office, 112 South MLK Drive. Participants will receive training in the use of decision aids based on cost and return estimates to make sound management decisions. This workshop will provide participants the opportunity for hands-on training with spreadsheet based decision aids focusing on problems such as evaluation of crop mix alternatives, calculation of sustainable land rental rates and setting marketing goals. A limited number of laptops are available so please register. If you have a laptop with Microsoft Excel, please bring it to the workshop. nThere will be a Delta Ag Expo Wednesday and Thursday, January 18 and 19, 2018 in Cleveland Mississippi. The Delta Ag Expo provides farmers and others interested in agriculture, an opportunity to see the latest technology in agricultural products, services, and information. You will have the opportunity to view agricultural exhibits and talk with extension and research personnel and get up-to-date information for planning your crop year.
nThe Private Pesticide Applicator Certification Training and Recertification will be held at the Sunflower County Extension Office starting at 9:00 a.m. Thursdays, January 25, February 15, and March 15, 2018. There will also be additional certifications held at the Washington County Extension Office starting at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, and Thursday, March 8, 2018. A $20 fee per person is charged for this program. Check payable to MSU-ES is the preferred method of payment. NO CASH.
