MVSU Football Bus Trip
A charter bus will be traveling to the game between MVSU and Alcorn State on Saturday. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the price per seat is $36 per person. All money MUST be paid by TODAY. The bus pick-up times and places are: 10 a.m. – new Walmart in Starkville; 12 noon – MVSU Student Union in Itta Bena; 12:40 p.m. – McDonald’s in Indianola; 1 p.m. – McDonald’s in Leland. Baby Fair
Delta Health Partners of Sunflower and Washington Counties in partnership with Tougaloo College present a Community Baby Fair from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. TODAY at the Greenville Mall. Library Events
September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month. Make the best use of your local library by getting a library card. All you need is your photo ID and proof of your mailing address. It’s that simple! Also, this month only, have your overdue fines erased and your lost library card replaced for free. So, “Come In and Clean the Slate.” For library patrons this is also a great time to come by the library and update your account information so the library can better serve you.

Homebuyer Education Workshop
Mississippi Housing Partnership and Mississippi State Conference, NAACP will sponsor a Homebuyer Education Workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Indianola Promise Community Project Center, 114 Second Street. Attending this class will equip you with valuable homebuyer information and resources to help guide you into purchasing and sustaining your home. Also, this class is a pre-requisite to be eligible to receive down-payment assistance or to be eligible for some lender mortgage products. There is NO FEE to attend but registration IS REQUIRED. Fannie Lou Hamer Commemoration
The Fannie Lou Hamer Memorial Garden & Museum Foundation invites the public to the 42nd annual Commemoration and Birthday Celebration program in the Fannie Lou Hamer Memorial Garden located at 729 Byron Street, Ruleville beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. October 6 is the official birthdate of Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer, a sharecropper who left her home on Aug. 31, 1962 to register to vote at the Sunflower County Courthouse. She devoted her life to the struggle for voting and human rights for African Americans.
SCCSD October Board Meeting
The Sunflower County Consolidated School Board will have its Regular Monthly Board Meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8 at Carver Elementary School, located at 404 Jefferson Street, Indianola.
Financial Education Boot Camp
Word of Life Church of God in Christ, 1108 Third Avenue, will host a Financial Education Boot Camp beginning Wednesday, Oct. 9. The curriculum is taught over a five-week period in 2 to 2½ hour sessions between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Prayer Walk
Rash Temple Church of God in Christ, located in Sunflower, will host a prayer walk beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 at City Hall. City officials, leaders and all churches and citizens are welcome.
MSU Extension Service

Sunflower County Extension will be hosting the FARMtastic exhibit again this fall for area schools to bring students to learn about agriculture. This event will be held November 19-21 at the Edgar Donahoe Livestock Barn in Sunflower. Free School Meals
All enrolled students of Sunflower County Consolidated School District are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at NO CHARGE each day of the 2019-2020 school year. No further action is required of parents/guardians. Children will be able to participate in this meal program without having to pay a fee or submit an application.
Project LISTEN
Sunflower Humphreys Counties Progress, Inc. has a new opportunity for students in the area. Project LISTEN (Love, Investing, Setting goals, Teamwork, Educating and the importance of Never giving up) is for ages 14 to 18 in Sunflower County and Humphreys County. This project ends on Sept. 30 and will teach students fundamental skills needed to progress in the real world. Project LISTEN is free for participants and parental support is encouraged.
