NEWTON COUNTY, Miss. - The Newton County Sheriff’s Department’s Criminal Interdiction Unit has arrested a man who is wanted in connection with a stabbing incident in Texas.
Sheriff Joedy Pennington said Anuar Osvaldo Garces, 37, of Grand Prarie, Miss., was arrested about 1 p.m. today near the 118 mile marker on I-20. Pennington said the suspect is accused of allegedly stabbing his girlfriend in Dallas County, Texas early Friday morning, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
“Deputy Bolie Stokes identified the suspected vehicle on I-20 around the 112 mile marker and was able to stop him around the 118 mile marker,” Pennington said. “He was taken into custody without incident. We served the arrest warrant.”
Garces is currently in the Newton County Jail awaiting extradition.
Pennington said they have been working with the Dallas County (Texas) Sheriff’s Department and U.S. Marshal’s Service on the case.
