A Greenville woman has been arrested for her role in a late January shooting in Moorhead that resulted in a 13-year-old being shot in the arm.
Deshonda Jakewell was apparently arrested last Thursday evening, according to a post on the Greenville Police Department’s Facebook page.
“Thanks to the fast action of some of you, Deshonda Jakewell was taken into custody on last night by the Greenville Police Department,” the statement, posted on Friday, said. “Jakewell was wanted for her role in a shooting incident that occurred last week in Moorhead, that left a 13-year-old severely injured.”
The Enterprise-Tocsin reported on the shooting in this week’s print edition.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early morning hours of Jan. 26, around 4 a.m.
The family indicated that they knew who was responsible for the shooting.
They said they had received threatening messages ahead of the drive-by, which left their downstairs apartment at Moorhead Manor apartments riddled with bullet holes.
The 13-year-old was in the same bedroom as two toddlers, the family said, when she was shot in the arm. She was later airlifted out of the Delta and underwent surgery. She will recover, according to her family.
The E-T posted its story, along with a video interview with the family on Wednesday night. Just a short time later, the Greenville Police Department issued a wanted poster for Jakewell on its Facebook page.
“Moorhead Police Chief Fred Randle and The Moorhead Police Department would like to thank you for your efforts in this arrest, as well as the Greenville Police and Washington County Sheriff’s Department,” the Friday post said. “The capturing tip was received from the CrimeStoppers tip line, and a reward will be issued.”
