Humphreys County Sheriff Charles Sharkey passed away this week at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola.
Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton said in a press release this week that Sharkey was rushed to the hospital on Monday morning after suffering a massive heart attack.
“Despite the valiant efforts of Dr. Hannah Ray and the South Sunflower County Hospital staff, Sheriff Sharkey was pronounced dead at 10:52 a.m.,” Burton said. “My thoughts and prayers go out to the Sharkey family, the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Department and the residents of Humphreys County.”
Sharkey, 57, will be laid to rest on Saturday after a noon service at Upper Room Fellowship Ministries in Belzoni. Interment will follow at Sutton Cemetery in Belzoni.
