An inmate who escaped custody from the Mississippi Department of Corrections last week is apparently still on the loose.
Garnett Hughes escaped, authorities say, while he was being taken to a private viewing of his mother at a funeral home in Belzoni.
He is 33 years old, 6-foot-1 and weights about 170 pounds.
Hughes is serving a life sentence for kidnapping and sexual battery in Alcorn County, with the sentencing taking place in 2014, according to news reports.
It has also been reported that the U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
