A hit and run accident that is still currently under investigation in the city of Drew has resulted in the death of 24-year-old Jermaine Covington.
According to information released by Chief Terry Tyler and the Drew Police Department, Covington was found deceased and face down in a ditch along U.S. Highway 49 North.
The call reportedly came in through the emergency 911 system at the sheriff's department at around 6:30 a.m., on July 7.
As a result of the damage found in the roadway from the front end of the assailing vehicle, law enforcement officials were able to collect evidence that points to a gray or silver 2014 Ford Mustang and are asking the public's help in identifying the owner of the vehicle, which was reportedly traveling north at the time.
Although the exact speed or the time of impact is not known, it was suggested that the car was traveling at a high rate when the victim was struck. Covington’s body was discovered about a half of a mile from his home.
Tyler is encouraging the driver to turn himself in. He/she or anyone with information are urged to call the Drew Police Department at 662-745-2200 or Tyler's cell phone at 662-404-2229.
A cash reward is being offered for valid information that leads to the identification and arrest of the suspect. Chief Tyler said they're doing everything they can to find the person responsible and offered up their sincere condolences to Covington's family.
