One of the June guilty pleas in the 2015 murder of Willie Gilson may be withdrawn.
The Enterprise-Tocsin learned last week that Garrick Price, who plead guilty in the case along with Vilandrius Gibson on June 1, asked during a June 28 sentencing hearing to withdraw his plea, although presiding judge Richard Smith has not taken any action on the request as of press time this week.
Price is currently serving time for the 2017 first-degree murder of Aaron Beamon. He was convicted of that crime in 2019.
Other defendants in the case include Alexandria Jennings and Lucas Edwards.
Edwards, is scheduled to go on trial in Leflore County Aug. 17.
It has been over five years since Gilson was gunned down at his Indianola home.
Gilson’s death was allegedly perpetrated as the result of an attempted robbery gone bad. Law enforcement believes the four people mentioned above allegedly followed him from a local convenience store after spotting him with a sizeable amount of cash, approached him in his front yard in an attempt to rob him and subsequently shot him.
A task force consisting of local law enforcement agencies, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and the U.S. Marshals arrested the assailants just over a month after the incident.
