An arrest has been made in the daring daytime robbery of Community Choice Financial in the Lovelace Shopping Center on July 14.
Edward Terrell Clay 33, 307 Beale Street was arrested this week and charged with armed robbery and is currently being held in a Leflore County facility without bond. One other person is still at large and being sought by law enforcement officials and according to Sgt. Irish Johnson, Clay is not talking.
Johnson said they had questioned another person who had knowledge of the robbery but was not involved in the actual event. Clay allegedly is the person who jumped the counter and forced a female clerk into the back at gunpoint.
Although no definitive amount has been released yet, Johnson did say the robbers got away with “thousands of dollars.” He said they were able to nab Clay as a result of video surveillance, word on the streets and the fact that he was spending a lot of money.
He said Clay has an extensive rap sheet and is currently wanted on a $70,000 bond by another agency.
Two men wearing bandannas went into the business around 12:45 p.m., on the 14th and robbed a clerk at gunpoint before leaving with the money. Over $5,000 was recovered on the day of the robbery.
