As the June General Election approaches, political activity is ramping up across the municipalities of Sunflower County.
The qualifying deadline for five municipal elections passed last Friday at 5 p.m.
Indianola’s qualifying deadline is Aug. 15.
All other municipalities will have their primary elections on April 1, primary runoffs on April. 22, general election on June 3 and new
terms begin on July 1.
Indianola’s primary will be October 14, 2025.
With a mix of unopposed candidates and competitive races, voters are gearing up to make their voices heard.
City of Moorhead
In Moorhead, the race for mayor features five candidates:
- Kenneth Carpenter, Sr.
- Jeanette Knighten
- Dexter Pernell
- Don Walker
- George Holland (Incumbent)
Four candidates for city council seats are running unopposed, including:
- Annette Washington-Fields (1)

Doddsville: Unopposed Slate
In Doddsville, all candidates are running unopposed, including:

Ruleville: A Robust Contest
