Today is bringing a big night to North Sunflower Academy.
Not only is Homecoming to be celebrated, but the NSA Rebels football team will be opening the District 1-1A portion of its 2025 schedule.
Arriving at the NSA campus to serve as tonight’s competition will be the Lions of Delta Streets Academy in Greenwood.
With kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m., the Rebels will be attempting to use the occasion to improve on their 1-5 record currently in hand.
Meanwhile, the Lions come into this game owners of a 1-6, 1-0 record.
Last Friday night, while the Rebels dropped a 46-14 home-field decision to Lee Academy (3-4) of Marianna, Arkansas, the Lions suffered a similar fate.
That night saw the Lions fall by a 60-34 score to Covenant Christian School (4-2) of Ridgeland.
However, the Delta Streets Academy squad does have a district win to its credit. The Lions defeated Delta Academy of Marks two weeks ago by a 40-36 margin.
Throughout the past years, football competition between NSA and Delta Streets Academy has been sparse.
While the 2020 season was the last time the two programs played one another, NSA does own a 3-2 advantage in this series.
In last Friday’s loss to Lee Academy, both Rebels touchdowns were achieved through the air.
Senior quarterback Grayson Barnett stung the Arkansas school’s defense with scoring strikes to fellow senior Wyatt Barr and freshman Dylan Patterson.
The touchdown catches covered 49 and 20 yards respectively.
Barnett completed the game by completing eight of his 19 passes for 157 yards and the pair of touchdowns.
Patterson led all receivers with five catches for 89 yards while Barr’s two receptions covered 51 yards.
Defensively, Barr paced the NSA resistance with five tackles while junior Omarion Williams was close behind with four tackles.
Barnett and sophomore Lake Clem also contributed three tackles apiece to the Rebels’ defensive effort.
