Melanie Townsend-Blackmon was sworn in as mayor of Drew on Monday evening, alongside the city’s new Board of Aldermen during an inauguration ceremony at the Boys and Girls Community Building.
Justice Court Judge Lisa Bell administered the oath of office to Townsend-Blackmon and the Board of Aldermen, which includes Tierra Fountain, Ward 1; Jerome Shaw, Ward 2; Oliver Washington, Ward 3; Kyree Smith, Ward 4; and Jennie Lewis, alderman at large.
Family, friends and local residents attended the ceremony at 280 West Park Ave. Notable guests included Sunflower County District 5 Supervisor and board president Gloria Dickerson and Bolivar County District 1 Supervisor Jacorius Liner.
Townsend-Blackmon and the board members thanked the community for its support and pledged to serve Drew with dedication as they begin their new terms.
