The Mississippi Delta Blues Society of Indianola came home with a 2nd Place win at the 40th Annual International Blues Challenge.
The duo, 2 Blue for You, from Cleveland, placed 2nd in the Finals on Saturday at The Orpheum.
The Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge was held January 7-11 on Beale Street in Memphis. IBC represents the worldwide search for blues bands and solo/duo blues performers ready for the international stage, who are just needing that extra big break. It is the world’s largest gathering of blues musicians with over 20 clubs hosting the challengers and fans.
In addition to featuring these final rounds of the prestigious blues music competition, the IBC event week offers seminars, showcases, master classes, film screenings, networking events, book signings, and receptions for blues societies, fans, and professionals.
The Blues Foundation is world-renowned as THE organization dedicated to preserving blues music history and celebrating recording and performance. Friday morning Beale Street was blanketed with snow. Much of Memphis was closed down but it did not stop the music or the fans! John Clayton White from the Tupelo area represented the Indianola Blues Society in the Band Competition and in the Youth Showcase.
The Blues Society has been to finals a few times in the Solo/Duo category with no wins. Eden Brent won 1st in 2006.
