Find that Emergency Money for the South Delta, Mr. Bennie.
Good Mornin’! Good Mornin’!
Mr. Bennie wants $200 million in emergency funds for the Jackson water crisis. Now those folks in our state capital need access to good, clean drinking water. That I am all for. Too bad there aren’t any more water hoses like the only one we had at Tiger Field at CDA to drink out of at practice. That thing must have been 20 years old back in 1977 when I used it last. It’s probably still there. Tell the Jackson folks to head north on 49 and fill up a bucket or two. You too, Mr. Bennie. That hose has served the likes of All State players in many sports, doctors, lawyers, farmers, businessmen and plenty of homecoming queens. I’m sure Coach Ervin won’t mind walking over and showing you where it is. Makes me thirsty just thinking about it.
But Mr. Bennie, where are the emergency funds to #finishthepumps? I’ve talked to plenty of folks who’ve told me that “if a congressman wants pumps or any other project done in his district, it gets done.” The last deal that was gummed up when you, Mr. Bennie, sent a letter requesting the EPA to take another look at something that has been approved since 1941. And the compromised deal that on paper has pumps that pump less and don’t even come on till a majority of the land they’re protecting is already under water. If y’all are so worried about the wetlands, why are you drowning them? The pumps will actually benefit and protect what you and the Sierra Club are so concerned with. I don’t want to mess up the wetlands. Nature needs to be protected – and the pumps will do just that.
You say you’ve been talking to the White House about money for Jackson. We’re trying to put some money in the CR. At this point, about $200 million dollars. But wih the absence of a plan, this is kind of what appears to be reasonable. But I can’t say for sure because I hear a billion dollars. I’m not aware of a problem this large being solved all at once.”
You don’t say? There is a plan for the pumps. The flooding in the South Delta can be fixed to a large degree and solved pretty much all at once if you #finishthepumps, Mr. Bennie. Why don’t you have these conversations about the South Delta with your buddies in the White House and Appropriations? If they can find $200 million for folks without a plan, imagine what they could come up for folks who have had a plan in place since 1941?
Help Jackson. Help all of District 2, Mr. Bennie. Do the job you were elected to do and #finishthepumps. Oh, and let me know when you want to meet up in Inverness for that water break.
