The Fannie Lou Hamer Museum & Garden Foundation is proud to host a special two-day celebration honoring the 108th birthday of civil rights icon Fannie Lou Hamer. Events will take place on Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5 in Ruleville. All activities are free and open to the public.
The celebration will begin on Saturday, October 4 at 10 a.m. with a birthday program in the historic Hamer Garden, located at 929 Byron Street. The featured guest speaker for the program will be Supervisor Gloria Dickerson, who will deliver a keynote address honoring Hamer’s legacy of courage, activism, and community empowerment.
The festivities will continue on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with the Fannie Lou Hamer Gospel Fest at the Ruleville Downtown Park. This inspiring community event will bring together choirs and gospel performers to celebrate through song and fellowship in honor of Hamer’s enduring spirit.
Fannie Lou Hamer, born on October 6, 1917, was a pivotal leader in the civil rights movement and a powerful advocate for voting rights, justice, and equality. Her voice and activism played a crucial role in the Voting Registration Movement, and her legacy continues to inspire generations.
“We are honored to celebrate the life and legacy of Mrs. Hamer in the very community she called home,” said representatives of the Fannie Lou Hamer Museum & Garden Foundation. “This event not only remembers her incredible contributions but also encourages all of us to continue her fight for justice, equality, and democracy.”
