Everything we say or do is going to affect someone somehow! Sounds odd doesn’t it but what we say and how we say it and how we act are being noticed by people around us whether we know them or not. We can be a very positive influence for some people depending on our lifestyle that includes our actions, voice, and vocabulary. We can also be a very negative influence on someone if we display irrational behavior that includes anger and actions that are detrimental to others. This especially includes our Christian walk in a sinful world.
How is it with you? Do you view your actions and temperament the way you want people around you to see you? For many of us a quick reaction to a situation can be good or it can be bad as to how people are going to view us in the future and how they are going to react to us being around them.
For the ones of us who call ourselves a Christian we have to understand that our reaction to a condition or a situation is critical. Being a Christian doesn’t mean we are going to be easygoing and relaxed in everything that is thrown our way because we are not. We are human and many of us will react as the world reacts.
There is an old saying that goes, “It’s good to be saved and know it! But it’s even better to be saved and show it!” We are told in 1 Corinthians 11:1 by the Apostle Paul, “And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.” For us to be a good role model we are to be like Christ.
For most of us this is hard because we are battling Satan and his worldly values each and every day. Being a Christian and the role model that we want to display to those around us is not easy. This is why we need to read God’s Word each and every day and talk to Him. Ask Jesus for guidance. Ask Him to lead you in the direction He wants you to go instead of allowing you to follow after the amenities of the world. Satan gives us easy pleasures and temptations but only Jesus Christ will give us eternal life. Living a few short years on this earth might get us notoriety and pleasure while we are here but only Jesus can give us eternal life.
I am not saying that Christians cannot enjoy some of the finer things this world has to offer but we should keep our eyes on Jesus and follow Him in whatever we attempt. Never forget that someone is always watching you. Are you going to be the light of the world for them and lead them in the direction that Jesus has set for all of us?
