In today’s fast-paced society everyone seems to be in a hurry. We all seem to live by the clock and want everyone around us to be the same way. Most of us have watches and we use that watch to value our time in almost every situation. Why is it this way?
In the gospel of Matthew chapter 19:13-15 we are told that the disciples tried to hinder people from bringing their children to Jesus for Him to touch. The disciples didn’t think He wanted to take the time to fool with the children but they were rebuked by Jesus to let them come to Him. Verse 14 says, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Jesus did not tell His disciples we need to move on because He didn’t have time to speak with them. He didn’t look at His watch and say “Well I have a few minutes, let them come to me.” Instead He took each one of them to Himself and placed His hands on them before He moved on.
The only thing we have on this earth is time and that is between the beginning and the end that Jesus tells us about in Revelation 22:13. No one is going to get more time than our Great God wants us to have. The parameters of time on earth are something we put on ourselves.
Please don’t get me wrong about time. We all need structure in our daily lives and what we do to make it prosper and move forward. Jesus gives us wisdom to decide on when and where we need to be and much needed patience on how to make it happen. Most of us make the element of time a much needed entity in our daily routines and we value it more as a quantity of usage instead of a quality of usage.
We are told in James 4:14; “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”
We all need to be more like Jesus and make our time on earth more quality oriented instead of trying to get from place to place in a matter of minutes. One minute on this earth is 60 seconds and as long as you and I live it will probably never change. It is up to us to use every minute for the good of witnessing for Jesus and planting the seed of salvation to everyone we see and meet, whether by action or voice.
Jesus took His time with the children and touched each one of them. He had time for this small service of graciousness and didn’t push them away. All of us need to insure that our short time on earth will be a quality-filled time instead of just trying to get by.
