As we drive along the interstates or highways something that we are always going to have are guardrails along the side of the road. These are put there for protection and to keep us from veering off the road into a danger zone which could cost us physical or mental harm or our life.
If you have ever driven along a mountain road that seemed wide enough for one vehicle but it was a two lane road and the outside lane is very close to a deep ravine, your nerves are on edge and even though you are a very confident driver there is a feeling of uneasiness. When my wife and I first got married I was in the Air Force and we were stationed in Colorado Springs. Being young and adventurous we were excited about the mountains and decided to take a road trip.
The weather was beautiful when we left. This was the middle of September and, being from the South, we wore summer clothes for our drive. The scenery was beautiful and the more we drove the more excited we were because of the tunnels we went through and the beauty of the mountain ranges.
Not being aware of how the weather can change the higher we drove the cooler the temperature became and suddenly we were driving in snow. We did have a map and were following it close but never did we think we would run into weather that we were unaccustomed to.
This is the way life is. Everything is going fine in your life and you start to venture out in the world and suddenly you run into a road block. Situations are thrown at you and you start feeling drawn into the ways of the world not realizing how close to a danger you have become. The world is full of surprises and unless you are well grounded in your guardrails of life you can go overboard at any time.
Just as my wife and I drove through the snow and reached the peak of the road we were traveling, we had to go back down and we became nervous in the direction we were going. We couldn’t stop because of the narrowness of the road but we were so glad for the guardrails along the side of the road to keep us from falling down into a ravine and possibly losing contact without anyone knowing where we were.
Thankfully through our talking with the Lord and him providing the roadside protection of guardrails we made it back home safely. Even though this is only one hazardous situation we have faced together in our marriage of nearly five decades we have made it because the Lord has provided us with a clear passage and direction for us to follow.
So many people get pulled into the world and follow the directions of immorality, dishonesty, greed, and seeking the pleasure of the world that the guardrails of the Lord become lost to them. For many they never find their way back and don’t realize these only last a short time.
For Christians we know that the Lord has given us great guardrails for us to adhere to. The Bible, His Word, is full of laws and commands that lead us in the direction that we should go. He gave us the Ten Commandments that we should live by. He teaches us all through scripture how we should love our neighbor as ourselves. He teaches us how we should live and approach each day of life with thanksgiving and praise.
How is your daily life? How are your morals and can you face the world knowing that you have Jesus leading you? If not then all you have to do is ask Jesus into your heart and He will guide you in the way you should go.
