Firefighters in Sunflower County recently completed in-service training from the Mississippi State Fire Academy.
Introduction to Aircraft Firefighting & Rescue, an 12-hour regional course offered by the Mississippi State Fire Academy, was conducted at the Ruleville Volunteer Fire Department the week of April 14th.
The course was designed for structural firefighters to gain a basic knowledge of how to safely mitigate an accident involving general aviation aircraft whether on or off airport property, covering such topics as Airport Familiarization, Aircraft Familiarization, Safety/Hazards, Communications, Extinguishing Agents, ARFF Apparatus, Fire Suppression, Ventilation, Overhaul, Emergency Planning, and Strategic and Tactical Operations.
Fire instructors partnered with Delta State University’s Commercial Aviation Department for hands-on training with a variety of general aviation airframes.
Sunflower County conducts between 120 and 220 hours of in-service and certification level courses for firefighters, including two 12-hour courses from the Mississippi State Fire Academy.
