A Wednesday morning gunfight outside a Moorhead discount market left four people wounded, with authorities revealing that two of the victims were involved in the shooting, while two others were innocent bystanders.
Four individuals were shot Wednesday morning at around 10:45 a.m. outside a discount market located at the intersection of Ingram Street and South Southern Avenue in Moorhead, authorities said.
Moorhead police confirmed that three males and one female were injured in the incident. The first male, who was shot three times, was transported to Greenville's Delta Health System before being transferred to Jackson for further treatment.
The second male sustained a single gunshot wound and was taken to South Sunflower County Hospital.
The third male was also shot once and was hospitalized at South Sunflower County Hospital.
The female victim was shot twice — once in the leg and once in the arm — and was initially taken to South Sunflower County Hospital before being airlifted to Jackson by helicopter.
Sources indicate that two of the male victims were directly involved in shooting each other, and the other victims are believed to be innocent bystanders.
Moorhead Interim Police Chief Wayne Self stated that two of the victims are suspects in the shooting. He added that arrests will be made once proper legal procedures are completed.
The Moorhead Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Sunflower County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff James Haywood urged residents to call 911 if they feel their lives are in danger, emphasizing that taking the law into their own hands is not the answer.
No further details about the motive or suspects have been released at this time.
