Breaking: MDCC releases shortlist of candidates for president

Mississippi Delta Community College has entered the final stages before naming the next president of the Moorhead-based school.

MDCC announced this week in a press release that a shortlist of three candidates has been compiled, and the board of trustees will have an opportunity to meet and talk with the candidates at a special call meeting at 8 a.m. on March 20.

The finalists, in alphabetical order, are Dr. William “Bill” Ashley (President, Shelton State Community College), Dr. Tyrone Jackson (Vice President for Utica Campus and Administrative Services at Hinds Community College) and Dr. Shawn Mackey (Deputy Executive Director for Programs and Accountability, Mississippi Community College Board).

One of the candidates will conceivably be named the successor to Dr. Larry Nabors, who has served as the head of MDCC since 2013.

In his time at the college, Nabors has overseen multiple capital projects, including the construction of a new student union.

He was set to retire last summer, but the well-publicized fire that destroyed much of the Woods-Stauffer Administration Building led him to commit to another year in order to see the college through the reconstruction process.

The school had accepted bids on rehabbing the building, but leadership at the college said a few months ago that the plan now is to build a new building entirely.

Inquiries regarding the search and selection process may be made by contacting Dr. E.E. Caston, presidential search consultant, via email at or by phone at (662) 843-3259 or (662) 719-9820.
