When Tito Jackson was ready to announce his current tour with the B.B. King Blues Band, he chose to make that announcement in Indianola.
During the late October press conference, Jackson said that he and B.B. King’s backing band would return to King’s hometown to perform at the annual B.B. King Homecoming Festival.
Those plans were confirmed this week when the B.B. King Blues Museum announced Jackson and the band will be headlining the June 2 lineup, and they will be performing in Fletcher Park, the venue where King himself performed many times over the years.
“Although B.B. performed in sold-out venues all over the world, nothing made him happier than to be back in his hometown to play this concert for the crowd he considered as his extended family,” said B.B. King Museum Executive Director Malika Polk-Lee in a release today.
The festival was moved from Fletcher Park to the museum grounds in 2012.
Tito and the B.B. King Blues Band will take the stage at 8 p.m., and he will close out the festival, in true B.B. King fashion, with a performance at legendary Club Ebony.
“I always idolized B.B. King, and I’ve always been a blues player, ever since I picked up the guitar I guess,” Jackson said in the release.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
Jackson, who is best known for his work with The Jackson Five and The Jacksons, released his first studio album, Tito Time, in 2016. He joined King’s backing band this year and the group is already performing on the road.
