An Indianola native who now owns a production studio in Atlanta plans to film a movie in her hometown later this month.
Bettina (Tina) Horton of BHorton Productions says she is now seeking extras and volunteers to participate in the filming of COOPER, a short movie that she says is based on real events.
Horton said Indianola is her No. 1 choice for location.
“I’d rather do it at home than do it in Atlanta,” Horton said.
Horton, a Gentry High School graduate, said that she first became interested in filmmaking when a portion of the movie The Chamber was filmed in Indianola in the 1990s.
“I got fascinated with film,” she said.
To this point, Horton said that she has produced two films, but this one is special to her.
COOPER tells the story of a 15 year-old student who wants to play high school basketball, but he struggles to make the team, not because of talent, but because of the politics of high school sports, Horton said.
Horton said that her own son experienced this battle when he was trying to make the varsity team while in school.
Horton said that she is seeking a diverse group of extras of all ages. She plans to be in town filming next weekend.
Those interested in participating in the movie can contact Horton at info@bhortonproductions.com. Horton asks that individuals include their name, headshot and phone number.
Horton, a 1996 graduate of Gentry High School, was raised by her grandmother, the late Rosie Lee Poindexter and her aunt Annie Clay, she said.
