An early morning shooting in Moorhead on Friday has resulted in two arrests and a warrant being issued for a third person.
Moorhead Police Chief Fred Randle said on Tuesday that Robert E. Scott, 18, and Christian Washington,17, have been arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact.
The two had their initial appearances before the judge on Tuesday and a bond was set at $250,000 for each.
Scott and Washington were two of at least five people who were reportedly in a rented white 2020 Chevrolet Suburban when passengers inside the vehicle allegedly fired upon a 17-year-old who was reportedly talking to a woman outside of his residence at the time.
The 17-year-old, whom we have chosen not to name in this article, was arrested as the suspect in a late 2019 shooting in Indianola. Police believe the incident Friday morning could have been a retaliatory measure stemming from the previous shooting.
Additionally, Randle said charges have been filed against 18-year-old Faterrius Roscoe.
"We are looking for him, got warrants on him for attempted murder," said Randle.
He indicated that more arrests and charges are forthcoming.
Roscoe and the intended target were both reportedly injured during the gunplay, but the nature of their injuries are uncertain at this time.
Both were brought to the South Sunflower County Hospital Emergency Room in separate private vehicles and later transported to a Jackson area hospital. Roscoe was apparently treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and released.
Randle said his officer got a call at around 2:50 a.m. Friday morning and was told about a gunshot victim at the hospital in Indianola.
He said upon arrival his officers made contact with the victim who stated that he was outside of his residence in Moorhead with a woman when a vehicle drove up and someone started firing at him.
He reportedly stated that individuals in a white truck, which was later identified as the rented Suburban, shot him in Moorhead and his mother then drove him to the Indianola hospital.
While at the SSCH ER, at least one shot was reportedly fired in the parking lot, and when a sheriff's deputy arrived, he pursued the SUV after it fled the scene.
Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood said his deputies chased the SUV to a residence in the Herman Johnson Street and Broadmoor Drive area where the suspects fled the vehicle.
After being on the scene for several hours, officers finally located Scott and Washington tightly crouched together in a heating and AC intake closet in a home on West Herman Johnson Street and took them into custody.
It is unclear at this time who fired the shots that injured the victim or Roscoe.
Indianola Police Investigator Sergeant Regina Simpson said they have turned the investigation over to the Moorhead police since the shooting occurred there.
Three persons were brought and booked into the Sunflower County jail on the night of the incident, although as of this time no charges have been filed against that third person.
