I could have sworn all week that Mississippi State is playing at LSU this weekend.
Everybody’s been hollerin’ Boudin! Boudin!
Turns out, they have been shouting Boo Dan! Boo Dan!
So I guess Florida is coming to Starkville, and I hear it’s a big game.
Dan Mullen, the former nine-year coach of the Mississippi State Bulldogs is returning to Davis-Wade Stadium, and the State fans are torn between cheering for their beloved ex-coach or booing him for abandoning the program and taking a few coaches and recruits with him to Florida.
If the Bulldogs were 4-0, as was planned, coming into this game, I think the State fans would be gracious and give Dan a well-deserved standing O.
Since they were defeated in their first SEC matchup last weekend at Kentucky, I think the Bulldog Nation will be a little more on edge about this game, and you might here more silence than boos and cheers.
That silence will be both humility and anxiousness as this team cannot afford a second loss in a row.
As it turns out, it’s Ole Miss that will be playing LSU tomorrow, and like Mississippi State, the Landsharks will be facing a former coach in Ed Orgeron.
Orgeron’s departure from Ole Miss did not come on the heels of nine of the school’s most successful seasons, as was the case of Mullen, so I would expect the crowd’s reaction to be a mix of “meh” and “who is that again?”
I believe Ole Miss is good for at least three more wins before Thanksgiving, but they aren’t worried about LSU or Auburn or anybody like that.
They are banned from all of the bowls except for one, and that is the Egg Bowl.
That’s what Ole Miss is looking toward. They see a beatable Mississippi State team coming to their house in November, and they could care less about what lies in between.
That’s Friday’s take.
