The remaining basketball teams still in contention for state titles are headed to Jackson, and Sunflower County has three teams in the hunt.
Both Gentry teams earned a spot in the state finals this week, with the boys and girls knocking off Itawamba earlier in the week, followed by a pair of nail-biters on Friday and Saturday night.
The Gentry Lady Rams prevailed 40-30 over Leake Central High School on Friday night.
The Rams took care of business with a 59-57 win over Senatobia Saturday night.
The girls game was close for most of the night, with the Lady Rams pulling away late in the second half.
The boys, however, had a tougher time of it against Senatobia. The game was actually tied at 57 with less than a minute to go, but the Rams managed to sink two key free throws to secure the win.
Meanwhile, Ruleville defeated Nettleton High School on Saturday night 58-38 to secure a spot in Jackson. The Tigers will play Jefferson Davis High School at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Gentry teams have games on Thursday, with the girls tipping off at 9 a.m. against Lawrence County at Jackson State. The boys teams will not play until much later, tipping off at 8:30 p.m. against South Pike at the Jackson Coliseum.
