Indianola Police Chief Edrick Hall will leave the city, effective July 2.
Hall officially submitted his resignation to the Indianola Board of Aldermen on Thursday night, and it was accepted by the board.
It was revealed back in May that Hall had been chosen to be the new assistant police chief in Columbus, but after this announcement, Hall said that he was still praying about the decision.
Indianola Mayor Steve Rosenthal negotiated with Hall over the next few weeks, but Hall made his decision final this week.
Hall has nearly 20 years of law enforcement experience.
He previously spent time helping to develop a School Resource Officer program at the Sunflower County Consolidated School District and as police chief in Inverness.
Hall has been the city top law enforcement officer for two years.
The city started advertising the position of police chief back in May.
