The Indianola Academy Colonels baseball team is playing for the state championship for the first time in over 15 years.
It only took IA two games to eliminate Heritage Academy of Columbus this week, but one of those games was a long extra inning affair that resulted in a Colonel road win Tuesday night.
IA looked like the fresher team when Heritage came to town Thursday, winning the game 7-1.
The IA offense was led by back-to-back home runs by junior designated hitter Logan White and left fielder Spencer Roberson.
The Colonels will move on to play in the best-of-three championship series next week, with the first game on the road against the winner of the Central Hinds-Central Private series.
They will return home for the finale later in the week.
Central Hinds and Central Private, a school out of Louisiana, will finish their series on Friday.
After that, days and times will be set around a series of other school activities, including IA’s graduation on Thursday.
