Playing on the road to start a playoff series has worked well for the Indianola Academy Colonels so far in 2018.
The red hot IA team will have to do this one more time during the coming week, as Head Coach Clete Putnam’s team will make the four-hour drive to Baker, Louisiana on Tuesday to take on the Rebels of Central Private Academy.
The game will start at 6 p.m.
This will be IA's first play for the state title since 2002. The Colonels last won it all in 2001.
Regardless of the game one outcome, the two teams will return to the field on Friday night, in Indianola, for a 4 p.m. game one start and a 6 p.m. game two first pitch if the contest is necessary.
Over the last two weeks, Indianola Academy has started back-to-back series on the road, losing the first game at Starkville Academy before sweeping the home doubleheader two days later.
Last week, the Colonels outlasted Heritage Academy in a 3-1 nine-inning game.
Heritage came to Indianola last Thursday and promptly dropped the second game of the best-of-three series 7-1.
The Colonels claimed the AAA North Half championship trophy and advanced to the championship tournament, another best-of-three series.
